In November 2016 share of maize continued to increase and share of wheat and barley decreased among grain exports of Ukraine

In comparison to October, Ukraine slightly lowered export of grain crops and flour in November 2016 – by 0.5%, up to 4 ММT. At the same time, according to the company “ProAgro”, the major fall in volume was due to wheat and barley, while export of maize, peas, sorghum and flour increased.

Thus, in November foreign trade supplies of Ukrainian maize increased by 1 MMT and its share in the total grain exports rose to 55.8%. Maize exports increment is associated with an active inflow of new grain crop from producers. At the same time, reduction of early grain supply crops (wheat – by 32.3%, barley – by 44% in comparison with October of the same year) is related to sales suppression by manufacturers as well as to gradual depletion of reserves.

The increase of pea export looks quite unusual – plus additional 1 KMT to the volume of October. The average export price for this crop in the reporting month decreased by $ 18.8/t, which ultimately intensified the demand by exporters. Considering the reduction of internal trade of grain legumes, supply growth was ensured mainly by exporters at the expense of previously accumulated reserves.

In the first five months of MY 2016/17 (July-June) Ukraine exported more than 18.8 million tons of grain, of which about 53.6% was wheat and 21.3% – barley. Since the beginning of the season the largest export companies of grain remained: “Nibulon” (9% of total supplies), “Kernel” (7%), State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine (SFGCU, 5%) “Granum Invest” (4%) and “Bunge” (3%).
