Ukraine has increased exports of sugar by 33 times in MY 2016/17

Press service of Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reported that Ukraine has exported 344 KMT of sugar in MY 2016/17, which is 33 times more than in the previous season.

According to the report, in the current season Ukrainian farmers have got remarkably good harvest of sugar beet with increased quality of the product. Thus, improving the quality of such raw material allowed getting 6.9 tons of sugar per hectare in the current season, which is three times more than in 2010.

It is noted that due to the growth of productivity in 2016, the gross yield from the area of 290 thousand ha totaled 13.2 MMT, while in 2000 the same amount of raw material was collected from the area of 747 thousand ha.

“Year 2016 can be defined as a year of a clear dynamics. With 25% crop area increase to the previous year, sugar raw material production grew by 30%. Additionally, increase of 40% has been observed in the sugar production”, – said the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Kutovoy.
