As of April 14, 2017, Ukrainian farmers sowed 2.2 million ha by early grain and leguminous crops (2.4 million ha were planned initially).
This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
In particular, as of the reporting date, farmers sowed 154 thousand ha of spring wheat, which is 85% of the forecast. Spring barley was sown on 1.5 million ha (91% of the forecast); oats – 190 thousand ha (92%); peas – 369 thousand ha (112%).
In addition, Ukrainian farmers continue to sow corn, which now accounts for 236 thousand ha or 5% of the forecast. Sugar beet has been sown on 251 thousand ha (86% of the forecast). Sunflower has been sown on an area of 1 million ha (19%).
Also soybean sowing has been started, which, as of the reporting date, was carried out on an area of 24 thousand ha or 1% of the forecast.
It is noted that as of April 14, all regions of Ukraine have completed fertilizing the winter crops. Since the beginning of spring field work, winter crops have been fertilized on an area of 7.1 million ha and winter rapeseed – 872 thousand ha.
