Ukrainian farmers sowed 2.8 million ha with grain crops

As of April 21, 2017 Ukrainian farmers sowed 2.8 million ha of spring grain and leguminous crops, which is 39% of the forecast.

This is reported by ProAgro with reference to the press service of Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

In particular, at the reporting date, early spring grain and leguminous crops were sown on an area of 2.2 million ha or 95% of the forecast.

Thus, 158 thousand ha were sown with spring wheat, which is 88% of the forecast; spring barley was sown on 1.5 million ha (92% of the forecast); oats – 193 thousand ha (93%); peas – 373 thousand ha (113%).

In addition, Ukrainian farmers continue to sow corn (549 thousand ha or 12% of the forecast); sugar beet (278 thousand ha or 95% of the forecast); sunflower (1.6 million ha or 29%).

Sowing of soy was carried out on an area of 55 thousand ha or 3% to the forecast (as of the reporting date).
