Processing of all key oilseeds increased in December 2016

According to ProAgro, the processing performance indicators of all major oilseeds in December 2016 exceeded similar indicators for the last month, while compared to December 2015, the picture does not look so clear.

Thus, despite the fact that in Ukraine processing of rapeseeds was somewhat higher than in November, if compared to the same month of the last year indicator, it fell more than by 60% in December of 2016. Production of rapeseed oil and meal dropped even more impressively – by 65% and 66%, respectively.

Sunflower complex, on the other hand, shows a strong increase in some key positions in comparison to the corresponding figures of the previous year. Record harvest and strong demand helped to increase the production of crude sunflower oil in December 2016 by 53% compared to the same month of the last year. Since the beginning of the season output of crude sunflower oil was 42% higher than in September-December of MY 2015/16. However, it should be mentioned that in contrast to other components of the complex, production of packed sunflower oil continued to decline in September-December of MY 2016/17 decreasing by 22% compared to the similar indicators of the last season.

Processing indicators of soy in December 2016 showed a moderate growth compared to the previous month and if compared to December of the last year. According to the results of September-December of MY 2015/16, volumes of processed soy decreased by 13% in general in Ukraine compared to the same time frame of the previous season. In our opinion, processing indicators of soy will increase in the following months of the current season, given that the soy harvest in 2016 was a record one and is estimated at 4.1 MMT.

Withal, Kernel continues to keep the leading place among the largest processors of sunflower on the results of September-December of MY 2016/17. It accounted for 22% of crude oil production and for 20% of the refined sunflower oil output on the results of the month. The share of agricultural holding in the market of packed sunflower oil is around 50%.

Astarta holds the leading position among the soy processing companies on the results of September-December MY 2016/17. The company accounts for over 25% of the total production of soy oil and soy meal / cake in Ukraine.

Olijar stands as a leading processor of canola on results of July-December MY 2016/17. 38% of total Ukrainian canola oil and 48% of the meal / cake has been processed on the factory capacities of Olijar in Ukraine.
