According to ProAgro, the processing of all major oilseeds in January 2017 exceeded the figures of the corresponding month of 2016. Exceptions were only in the processing of rape. Low oilseeds harvest in 2016, as well as its active exports in the current season, did not allow creating a sufficient amount of raw materials for the processing enterprises. As a result, the volumes of rapeseed oil production in January 2017 decreased by 86% compared to the results of January 2016 and the production of rapeseed meal/саке was reduced by 85%.
The sunflower complex, on the contrary, demonstrates a powerful increase in key positions in comparison to the indicators of the previous year. Record harvest and active demand allowed increasing the production of unrefined sunflower oil in January 2016 by 61% compared to the same month of the last year. The production of refined sunflower oil for the same period increased by 17%, packaged products increased by 8%.
The indicators of soybean processing in January 2016 also showed a significant increase as compared to January of the last year. At the same time, as a whole, according to the results of September – January MY 2015/16, soybean processing volumes in Ukraine decreased by 6% in comparison with the same period of the previous season. In our opinion, the decrease in the volume of soy processing in the current season is mainly due to the active export of raw material. Secondly, it is due to the decrease in demand for soybean meal/cake from the country”s livestock sector, in particular, the poultry sector.
The leading place among the largest sunflower processors in September-January 2016/17 MY continues to be occupied by Kernel. The holding accounted for about 23% of the production of unrefined sunflower oil, as well as 20% of the production of refined sunflower oil by the results of the month. The share of the holding in the market of packaged sunflower oil exceeds 50%.
