Ukraine lost almost 13 million tons of elevator capacity because of the war

At the moment some of Ukraine’s elevator facilities have been destroyed, while some of them turned out to be in the occupied territories. To date, Ukraine has lost about 13 million tons of elevator capacity, so the agricultural market may feel a significant shortage of storage capacity for grain.

According to “ProAgro Group”, this was said by Inna Vorobyova, editor-in-chief of Elevatorist.com.

“The degree of destruction is difficult to assess now, some granaries will be able to resume their work after repairs, others, such as Rubezhnoye-Agro, are literally wiped off the face of the earth. So now we can say that out of prewar 57 million tons of one-time storage (according to Elevatorist.com’s “Elevator Map”) 44 million tons are left”, Inna Vorobyova said.

If the situation does not change, these capacities will not be enough for grain storage in the new season.

“Taking into account the residual amount of last year’s harvest – up to 20 million tons by different calculations, it is obvious that this year Ukraine is going to face a considerable deficit of elevator facilities”, – she said.

Inna Vorobyeva added that in the future the distribution of new elevators in the country will change and this process is already in progress.

“Everything is going upside down in the elevator market. The geography of elevators is changing. If before the war the greatest number of elevators was built in the eastern and central parts of Ukraine, now the construction is moving to the western part, where there always were fewer elevators both in number and volume”, – Inna Vorobyova says.
