FAO will open its office in Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers agreed to sign an agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on the establishment of a project office in our country and the provision of technical and humanitarian assistance to our country. It is reported by “ProAgro Group” with reference to the information of the Ministry of Economy.

“Ukraine has long and fruitfully cooperates with FAO, an organization whose mission is to fight hunger around the world. After all, our country has been and remains the breadbasket of Europe and the world. However, because of the war unleashed by Russia, we need help. FAO provides it, in particular, by implementing jointly with the governments of partner countries programs to support Ukrainian farmers,” said First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to her, the adoption of the agreement and the establishment of the FAO office in Ukraine will raise cooperation to a much higher level. This also applies to the programs of support for agricultural producers and humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians in difficult life circumstances. Closer coordination in the issues of grain exports is expected.

Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of Russia, FAO has updated its rapid response plan in Ukraine to assist small and medium-sized Ukrainian farmers. As of mid-August, with funds provided by countries and non-governmental organizations, FAO has provided emergency agricultural assistance (seeds, multipurpose cash assistance) to 80 thousand people in 13 regions of Ukraine.
