According to the State Statistics Service, the number of livestock and poultry in Ukraine continues to decline, reports ProAgro Group.
So, as of December 1, the number of cattle has decreased most of all – to 2,925.2 thousand heads, which is 6.9% less than on the same date in 2020. In particular, the number of cows decreased to 1 610.7 thousand, which is also 6.8% less. However, unlike cattle in general, the number of cows increased slightly – by 0.1% – in the industrial enterprises of the livestock complex.
Somewhat less the domestic agroindustrial complex lost in the number of pigs – at the beginning of this month there were 5 830.8 thousand heads, which is 4.7% less than a year ago. As with cattle, the reduction was observed in enterprises and households.
But industrial enterprises significantly increased the number of sheep and goats – by more than 11 thousand heads – while households, which receive most of the small ruminants, reduced their numbers. Overall, the nation’s sheep and goat population was 1,193,300 at the beginning of the month, down 5.9 percent from December 1, 2021.
Compared with livestock, poultry population in January-November this year decreased the least – by 0.6%, and at the end of the period amounted to 217,632.2 thousand heads. At the same time, in industrial farms poultry increased by 0.6%, and in households – decreased by 2%.
