The Kherson region, which used to provide early vegetables and greens for almost all regions of Ukraine, has found itself in a difficult situation after the occupation by Russian troops.
Producers can only sell their produce in very small quantities and at the lowest prices, ProAgro Group reported, citing Kherson News.
The wholesale market in Velyki Kopani became a vivid illustration of economic problems of Kherson farmers. Producers sell their goods for pennies.
“For example, young white cabbage, Peking cabbage, radishes are sold for 5-8 hryvnias per kilogram. Cucumbers are asked for 20 hryvnias, young potatoes cost from 45 hryvnias (and even then, only because there is very little, because of rains the farmers gather a small crop). Early strawberries are sold at the wholesale market for 100 hryvnias,” writes the newspaper.
Farmers cannot take their products outside the region because the Russian military finally blocked their exit from the occupied territory.
