Ukraine plans to export 60 million tons of grain in 2021/22 MY

Ukraine continues to increase grain exports to foreign markets. In particular, in the 21/22 marketing year Ukraine intends to export more than 60 million tons of grain. A serious challenge in this matter is to ensure the capacity of sea ports.

This opinion was expressed by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka during the round table of the International Grain Council “Logistics, Driving Forces, Supply Chain and Sustainability of Infrastructure in World Grain Trade” within Global Grain Conference 2021 in Geneva, reports ProAgro Group with reference to information of the Ministry of Economy.

“Even 10 years ago, the issue of the capacity of Ukrainian seaports caused lively discussions, however, the last five years their capacity has increased from 49.3 million tons in 2016 to 81.5 million tons in 2021. The seaborne sector operates without delays, while we see volatility in rail freight prices. In this context the strategy of the Ukrainian government is to develop infrastructure in order to attract investors to this sector,” noted Deputy Minister.

He added that increased global demand amid easing of quarantine restrictions has raised freight rates to multi-year highs and increased industry revenues. This creates opportunities for additional investment in digitalization and automation.
