On the eve of the New Year holidays imports of cheese to Ukraine increased by more than a quarter. Deliveries of imported products broke the record and amounted to 4 thousand tons, of which 2.5 thousand tons were hard and semi-hard cheeses, informs ProAgro Group.
According to the State Fiscal Service, in October 2021 compared to October 2020 cheese imports increased by 26.6% to $25 million. Overall, in January-October 2021 compared to January-October 2020 cheese imports increased by 21.1% to $204.3 million, while exports of Ukrainian products – only by 13.1% to $20.9 million.
The largest supplies of cheese in October were from Poland – worth $ 9.5 million.
Under such conditions, Ukrainian cheese producers found themselves in a difficult situation. Domestic cheese is not in demand in the country: it is more expensive and not always of higher quality. And imported products are often much cheaper.
