More than $30 billion will be needed to restore the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine

The Russian invasion brought death, grief, suffering and huge losses to the Ukrainian economy, including the agricultural sector. These are destroyed fields, stolen grain and equipment, finished products, destroyed and looted warehouses, enterprises, temporarily lost territories due to the occupation, reports “ProAgro Group” with reference to the information of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

“We currently have more than $ 4 billion in direct losses, such as destroyed, burned and stolen goods, and more than $ 22 billion in lost potential income from unallocated food stocks. Ukraine, on behalf of law enforcement agencies, is documenting the theft of food and goods reported by people and will file lawsuits against Russia in international court,” First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky said in an interview with UkraineWorld.

According to him, recovery after the war will take a long time. At the initial stage, about $ 500 million will be required. In general, more than $30 billion will be needed to restore production in the agricultural sector.

Currently, it is critical for Ukraine to restore exports to ensure food security in the world and maintain domestic currency reserves and a stable hryvnia exchange rate.
