Nearly 4.5 million tons of grain are blocked at Ukrainian ports because of the war.
This was reported by Martin Frick, a representative of the UN World Food Programme, reports “ProAgro Group”.
According to him, there are now problems with food exports, in particular because the ports and sea routes are blocked because of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
He noted that before the war, Ukraine was one of the world’s most important producers of wheat and a major producer of corn. According to the UN, in 2020, the country harvested up to 30 million tons of corn and almost 25 million tons of wheat. It is noted that many countries, for example in North Africa, depend on cheap Ukrainian wheat.
Frick said that grain is crucial for global food security and called for resuming supplies of Ukrainian food to other countries.
