Romania restored rail connection for grain exports from Ukraine

Romania has resumed a Soviet-era rail link between its river port of Galati on the Danube and Ukraine.

The branch line was rebuilt a month earlier than expected to help boost Ukrainian grain exports, ProAgro Group reported, citing Bloomberg.

This means that grain that comes from Ukraine through Moldova can reach Galati without being trans-loaded at the border and then sail by barge to the Black Sea port of Constanta. Grain can also be stored at the port elevator in Galati, which has a capacity of 25 thousand tons, said Romanian Minister of Transport Sorin Grindeanu.

The agency notes that the Romanian state company began rebuilding the railroad track in Galati early last month. In total, since the beginning of the war, Romania has already facilitated the export of more than 1 million tons of Ukrainian grain.
