Spain has launched a pilot project for the transportation of grain by train from Ukraine as an alternative or complement to the sea transport.
This is stated in a statement by the Ministry of Transport of Spain, “ProAgro Group” reports citing “European Truth.
Railway operator Renfe Mercancías sent 25 units of 40-foot containers to the border between Poland and Ukraine to transport 600 tons of Ukrainian corn to Spain.
This is a pilot test, through which the Ministry seeks to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of rail transportation of grain through the railway line crossing Europe from Lodz to Barcelona.
The train follows the route Madrid – Ludwigshafen – Duisburg – Łódź – Chelm, while the return trip is Helm – Łódź – Duisburg – Barcelona.
Logistics of transport is planned between Ukraine and Spain with transportation of goods in Helm (Poland), 25 km from the border with Ukraine.
