Ukrainian ports on the Danube transshipped 3.4 million tons of grain

Ukraine has worked out and ensured the stable operation of logistics routes for the shipment of grain cargo through the ports of the Danube. This was stated in the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reports “ProAgro Group”.

It is noted that the war has created opportunities for growth in three ports at the mouth of the Danube – Izmail, Reni and Ust-Danube. For a certain period, these were the only three ports out of 13 that were able to fully operate. In peacetime, they accounted for slightly less than 5% of exports.

“I note that the processing of goods through the Danube ports of Reni, Izmail, Kiliya has increased by more than 2.6 times, including exports by 3.2 times. For 8 months of 2022, the Danube ports transshipped 3.4 million tons of grain,” said Maksym Marchenko, Head of the Odesa Sea Port Authority.

In addition, the channel of the mouth of the Bystroe ship traffic from the Danube River to the Black Sea has been opened. As of today, 180 merchant ships with Ukrainian agricultural products have passed through the Bystre estuary canal (337 together with the Sulinsky canal).

Also, the railway connection with the Republic of Moldova has been restored, namely, the renovated railway section Berezyne (Ukraine) – Basarabeasca (Moldova) with a length of 20.9 km, which had not been working for more than 20 years, was opened. The restoration of this route became vital against the background of constant attacks on the bridge across the Dniester estuary by the Russian occupiers.
