As of May 5, seeding of spring cereals and legumes were conducted on the area of 5.5 million ha or 76% of the forecast (7.2 million ha).
Early spring grain and leguminous crops were sown on an area of 2.3 million ha or 98% of the forecast (2.4 million ha), including:
– spring wheat – 167 thousand ha or 94% of the forecast (178 thousand ha);
– spring barley – 1.5 mln ha or 95% of the forecast (1.6 million ha);
– oats – 197 thousand ha or 95% of the forecast (211 thousand ha);
– peas – 378 thousand ha or 114% of the forecast (330 thousand ha).
Corn was sown on 3.1 million ha or 69% of the forecast (4.5 million ha).
Buckwheat was planted on 18 thousand ha or 13% of the forecast (145 thousand ha).
Millet was planted on 11 thousand ha or 14% of the forecast (81 thousand ha).
In addition, sugar beets were planted on 305 thousand ha or 104% of the forecast (293 thousand ha).
Sunflower was sown on an area of 3.8 million ha or 70% (5.4 million ha).
Sowing of soybean were held on an area of 793 thousand ha or 41% of the forecast (1.9 million ha).
Regarding the condition of winter crops:
examination of winter cereals harvest in 2017 showed that of the planted 7.17 million ha crops were successfuly obtained on 7,15 million ha, where 90% of the future crops were in good shape and only 10% were in weak state.
Conclusively, further condition of crops is crucially dependent on favorable weather conditions of spring vegetation and proper care.
