Permission not to pay for own land: who will avoid tax

From January 1, 2022, citizens of Ukraine must pay taxes on land that they own.

However, according to the law number 5600, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada at the end of 2021, some citizens may avoid paying land taxes, reports “ProAgro Group” with reference to “Course of Ukraine”.

The categories of citizens who may not pay tax are as follows:

  • owners of land plots who use the land for their own needs;
  • people who sell products from their share, but on the condition that they pay the necessary taxes on income;
  • owners of dachas and allotments of up to 50 hectares;
  • owners of land shares, which are located within the boundaries of settlements, dacha and gardening cooperatives;
  • owners of land plots obtained as a result of privatization in cooperatives in the exclusion zone.

Immediately after the launch of the land market in Ukraine the price per hectare was low and equaled $1 – 1,3 thousand, but according to Volodymyr Nagorny, head of land policy and property relations of MHP and co-owner of the land agency “Vlastelin”, the situation will change already this year.

According to the expert, since 2022 the price of Ukrainian agricultural land will increase and its average value will be $2,5 – 3,5 thousand per hectare.
