Buckwheat prices began to decline sharply

In Zhytomyr the price for buckwheat has dropped at the market. Now it costs from 50 hryvnias per kilogram, while a few days ago buckwheat cost from 80 to 100 hryvnias.

Sellers explain that in Ukraine there is a large crop of buckwheat, so the prices have dropped, reports “ProAgro Group” with reference to First Zhytomyrskyi.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ukrainian farmers responded to the shortage of buckwheat in the spring and sowed 1.5 times more area compared to last year.

“Now the harvest of buckwheat has just begun, threshed 8% of the area, harvested almost 12.6 thousand tons. A total of 140 thousand tons is expected. Given that domestic consumption is 100-110 thousand tons. Accordingly, Ukraine will fully provide itself with buckwheat and form a reserve”, – said the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky.

According to him, already in October, when groats will be processed and will be available to consumers, price reduction is expected in all regions of Ukraine.
