Elevators receive corn with excessive moisture content

Corn harvesting rate this year is much slower than last year. Moisture content in grain coming to elevators reaches up to 35%.

Yaroslav Levitskyi, the market analyst at ProAgro Group, told about this at the All-Ukrainian Forum on Efficient Farming – Profitable Hectare, AgroTimes reports.

According to him, one of the challenges for corn producers this year was weather conditions, due to which farmers sowed and harvested lately.

“The lag compared with last year is almost twice,” said Yaroslav Levitsky.

According to his forecasts, about 100 thousand hectares of corn may be left for “wintering” in the fields this year.

As the analyst explained, it is also caused by an attempt of agrarians to “finish” maize in a natural way because of a record rise of gas prices and rates for grain processing at elevators. Moreover, all the costs are on the shoulders of bailors.

“The lower price of conditioned grain at most central Ukrainian grain elevators is 7 thousand hryvnias per ton including VAT, – the analyst said. – And to dry corn to 14% moisture the farms have to pay 2-2,5 thousand hryvnias per ton.
