In October, imports of fresh, chilled and frozen pork to Ukraine amounted to 4.3 thousand tons, which is 49% more than in September.
In general, for 10 months of 2022, imports increased by 41% in physical volume and by 56% in value, which is 45.1 thousand tons and $ 92.7 million, respectively, ProAgro Group reports, citing information from the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.
From the beginning of the full-scale invasion to July 1, compared to the same period last year, pork imports increased by 2.5 times, but since the return of duties and taxes on imports, the volume of supplies has decreased slightly – from July to October, the volume of imported meat decreased by 28% compared to July-October 2021. The main countries from which pork was imported were EU countries – Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain.
At the same time, there is a tendency to reduce the number of pigs in Ukraine: as of October 1, 2022, there are 5.2 million heads, which is 12.9% less than in 2021. The total number of pigs raised at enterprises is 3.2 million heads – 61.4% of the total livestock.
According to UCAB analyst Maksym Hopka, the reduction in the number of pigs was due to hostilities and the occupation of Ukrainian territories, as a result – a decrease in the slaughter weight of pigs by 11.2%, which for 9 months of 2022 amounted to 479.6 thousand tons.
