According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in January-September 2021, Ukraine imported 25.84 thousand tons of pork, which is 35% more than the same period last year.
This is reported by “ProAgro Group” with reference to the information of the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business.
Fresh or chilled meat in the structure of imports accounts for 61.9% (16 thousand tons), while frozen – 38.1% (9.8 thousand tons). The biggest suppliers of pork were Denmark – 13.77 thousand tons, Poland – 5.25 thousand tons, the Netherlands – 3.36 thousand tons and Spain – 1.50 thousand tons.
In general, for 9 months of 2021, Ukraine expanded international trade in pork and domestic production and increased the number of livestock in specialized swine complexes.
“Despite the fact that imports of pork significantly exceeds Ukrainian exports, the second indicator also shows an upward trend – 3.20 thousand tons of product were exported in 9 months of 2021, which is 56% more than the same figures last year. It should be noted that 99% of meat was sold frozen. The main buyers of Ukrainian pork were: the UAE – 1,391 tons, Hong Kong – 719.6 tons, Georgia – 198 tons and Liberia – 165.8 tons”, – said Maxim Gopka, UCAB analyst.
In addition, the total production of pork in farms of all categories increased by 4.4% and reached 540 thousand tons.
