Harvesting continues in Ukraine. The yield of early grains, although less than last year, but thanks to the weather is quite decent, so many are increasing preliminary estimates of the gross harvest of wheat and barley, says ProAgro Group.
The average yield is usually multiplied by the harvested area, although ongoing hostilities, especially in hotspots, can make a major adjustment to this calculation formula. After all, every day in the south and east of the country, massive artillery fire renders some of the fields unusable for harvesting, and another part is destroyed by fire. At the same time, the Rascist troops often deliberately strike the farmland to destroy the crops they have grown.
For example, according to the State Emergency Situations Department in Donetsk region, during one day on July 9 firefighters in Kramatorsk, Pokrovsk and Bakhmut districts eliminated eight fires of standing wheat, which were caused by enemy shelling.
The service does not specify how many hectares of crops were saved and how many still were destroyed. But it is clear that this year the battle for the harvest has ceased to be a figure of speech and turned into a real battle, and it is impossible to predict what losses the farmers will incur.
