The price of live pigs reached 75-80 UAH per kilogram

September ends with a further increase in the purchase price of slaughter pigs amid their shortage. It is reported by “ProAgro Group” with reference to the information of the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine.

The ASU notes that the heterogeneity of supply and demand for pork in different parts of the country has led to a deepening of interregional price differences. Thus, although in all regions the supply of slaughter pigs was limited, the greatest shortage was felt in the East, so there a kilogram of pork in live weight cost mainly 78-80 UAH/kg. In the Center, the main commercial volumes of live pork were purchased at 75-78 UAH / kg, and in the western regions the minimum mark was 1 UAH / kg higher.

“Representatives of the meat processing industry note that the limited supply (not only due to the smaller number of animals of slaughter conditions, but also their lower average weight) still supports prices. However, some of them expect that the domestic market may soon experience the traditional autumn weakening of trade activity and more active competition from imported pork. Therefore, the combined effect of these factors, according to processors, should restrain price fluctuations in the short term,” the association informed.
