In the current 2021/22 MY (September – August), Ukraine produced 1,450 thousand tons of sugar, which is 30.5% more than last season. Given the carryover, the supply of sugar in the current marketing year is 1.8 million tons, reports “ProAgro Group” with reference to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
The Ministry notes that the available supply is sufficient to ensure the domestic market (1 210 thousand tons or 28.9 kg / year per person) and the creation of export capacity (120 thousand tons). There will also be a significant stock of products for the beginning of 2022/23 MY in the amount of 470 thousand tons, which corresponds to almost five months of domestic consumption.
As for exports, in the ten months of the current marketing year, 73 thousand tons of sugar were exported, taking into account sugar-containing products.
According to operational information, in 2022 sugar beet was sown on an area of 180.4 thousand hectares. With a projected yield of 430-440 c/ha the gross yield of sugar beet (under favorable weather conditions) is projected at 7,830 thousand tons, of which about 1,080 thousand tons of sugar can be produced with a sugar yield of 13.5-14%.
