Bread is rapidly rising in price in the EU countries

Bread is rapidly rising in price in all countries of the European Union. In most cases, we are talking about a double-digit rise in price.

This is evidenced by Eurostat data, ProAgro Group reports with reference to GrowHow.in.ua.

On average, from August 2021 to August 2022, the price of bread in the EU increased by 18%. While in the previous similar period (2020-2021) the growth of bread prices was 3%. The European Statistical Office also noted a rapid increase in the cost of bread on a monthly basis: in August this year it amounted to 10% compared to July, while in the pandemic year 2021, August prices were only 3% higher than July.

The increase in bread prices varies across EU member states. The largest increase was recorded in Hungary – 66%. In Lithuania, bread prices rose by 33%, in Estonia and Slovakia – by 32%. The rise in price by about 30% occurred in Poland, Croatia and Latvia.

The least bread prices rose in France – by 8%. In the Netherlands and Luxembourg, prices rose by about 10%. In Switzerland, which is not part of the EU, the rise in bread prices was less than 4%.
