Germany proposes to buy Ukrainian grain to speed up its exports

German Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Berbock said she supports the proposal of the European Commission to appoint a central coordinator in the person of the EU, which will buy up the grain available in Ukraine and will rationally distribute its exports through existing logistics channels, ProAgro Group reported.

She made the relevant statement on July 18 after visiting the Romanian port of Constanta, which tranships significant volumes of agricultural raw materials from Ukraine under the blockade of Ukrainian seaports, according to the website of the publication Spiegel.

“We should consider whether to buy up all the Ukrainian grain, so that then be able to distribute it logistically much faster,” the publication quotes the German minister.

Berbok recalled that due to the Russian blockade of Ukrainian ports in Ukraine has accumulated 18 million tons of ready to export agricultural products. After the quadrilateral talks between Ukraine, the UN, Turkey and the Russian Federation, there is hope for the deblocking of the Ukrainian export infrastructure in the Black Sea, but it is still important to look for alternative grain routes.
