Global food prices rose sharply during 2021

By the end of 2021, the average value of the FAO Food Price Index, which tracks monthly fluctuations in international prices of the most popular food commodities was 125.7 points, which is 28.1% higher than the previous year.

This is evidenced by the data published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on January 6, reports ProAgro Group.

At the end of 2021, the average value of the FAO Cereal Price Index reached its highest level since 2012 and was 27.2% higher than the previous year: corn prices rose by 44.1%, wheat by 31.3%, while rice prices declined by 4.0%.

The average value of the vegetable oil price index reached an all-time high in 2021, a 65.8% increase over 2020.

The average value of the sugar price index rose 29.8% from 2020 levels, the highest annual average since 2016.

The average value of the meat price index was 12.7% higher than in 2020.

At the end of 2021, the average value of the Dairy Price Index was 16.9% higher than in 2020.
