If Ukrainian ports are not unblocked, food panic will start in the world

Deficit of Ukrainian grain is already affecting globally all food products in many countries of the world. If our ports are not unblocked within the next few months, food panic may break out in the world and the prices will go up by 20-30%.

This was stated by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky during a briefing in “Ukrinform”, reports “ProAgro Group” with reference to the information of the Ministry.

“The consequences of Russia’s armed aggression on the food security of the world are clear and obvious. Another issue is that they have not yet been felt to the end, because there are still formed reserves. Some countries, such as China, have built up much larger reserves last year than at other times. Other countries, like North Africa and the Middle East, have some grain reserves, but only until the new harvest,” the minister said.

As soon as some countries will not see a big new flow of grain from Ukrainian ports from the end of July, panic will set in, because it will be critical for them, he added, noting that there are already overpayments in the market, but they are not that painful yet.

According to the Minister, the shortage of Ukrainian grain will have a global impact, as it is necessary, in particular, for the production of many products, such as meat and eggs. Therefore, if Ukrainian ports are not unblocked and no other logistic ways are found, this problem will be felt even by countries that have never thought about it or faced it before. Thus, according to his forecast, meat and eggs in these countries in the near future could rise in price by 20-30%.
