Ukraine has developed grain export routes through Poland and Romania

Ukraine has developed two routes through Poland and Romania to export grain and prevent a global food crisis. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Senyk in an interview with Reuters, reports “ProAgro Group”.

He said global food security is at risk because Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has stopped grain exports from the Black Sea, leading to widespread shortages and soaring prices.

Senyk said Ukraine is negotiating with the Baltic states to create a third corridor for food exports.

He did not specify how much grain has already been transported or will be transported by these routes.

“These routes are not ideal, but we are doing our best to develop them,” Senyk said.

The agency notes that the Ukrainian rail system operates with a wider gauge than its European neighbors, such as Poland, so grain has to be reloaded onto other trains at the border, where there are not many transloading or storage facilities.

Redirecting grain to Romania involves transporting it by rail to ports on the Danube River and loading it onto barges for shipment to the port of Constanta, which is a complicated and costly process.
