Brief Description
The research addresses the main aspects of functioning of the Ukrainian pig breeding and the market of pork and meat products. The trends of the last five years are analyzed in detail with a focus on 2008-2009 and early 2010.
The paper analyzes the dynamics of pig population and pork production, competition among the industrial producers and private farms, conditions of pig keeping and the level of technical equipment of pig farms, breeding business and feed base. There is also a description of the companies that are the leading producers of pork and their competitive policies, the cost composition of the production output, economics of pork production, supplies of pork for processing etc.
The research assesses the state of the Ukrainian meat processing industry. The markets of pork and meat products are analyzed as well as the market position of the leading producers, foreign trade trends, price-setting in the market and the fundamental principles of consumer preferences. The paper also highlights the issues pertaining to the governmental regulation of the market, quality of products and standardization.
The research rates the largest producers of pork and meat products in Ukraine. It also analyzes the prospects for development of the industry and organization of supply of the pig breeding industry products to the new sales markets.
A separate section deals with processing of the wastes of pig breeding plants.
