Capacity deficit on the grain storage market remains

The grain elevator market shows a definite lack of capacities and their uneven distribution in the regions. This encourages farmers to build their own elevators and storage facilities.

Yaroslav Shtyka, a member of the board of the Ukrainian Association of Elevators and expert on the grain elevator market, emphasized this fact, as ProAgro Group reports quoting AgroTimes.

“The market itself proves the lack of the capacities and there is still some room for increasing the capacities. The distribution of elevator capacities by regions is still uneven. There are regions with overcapacity, where elevators work partially or are stopped and put up for sale, “- said Yaroslav Shtyka.

He specified that the biggest number of abandoned or partially abandoned elevators is in Poltava, Kiev and Khmelnitsky regions.

“On the other hand, in the regions with deficit of elevator capacities the agrarians have to transport grain long distances and sell it not only by offered grain price and quality of finishing services, but also by logistical component. This encourages the construction of their own elevators or storage facilities with minimum technology”, – summarized Yaroslav Shtyka.
