FAO announces tender to increase grain storage capacity in Ukraine

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced an international tender for the purchase of grain storage facilities and for solutions to the current deficit of storage facilities in Ukraine to provide farmers with the necessary equipment for grain storage over 2022-2023.

The tender is announced as part of the projects financed by the governments of Canada and Japan, ProAgro Group reported, citing information from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

Together with the Ministry, the FAO is working to implement a grain storage support strategy that aims to provide storage capacity for 4.07 million tons of grain, or about 25 percent of the estimated grain storage deficit.

The FAO has launched an extensive procurement process aimed at producers and suppliers at the global, regional and national levels. Most of the proposed technologies are expected to be transferred to the regional level by early to mid-October, when crop storage needs are at their peak.

Bid purchases include grain storage sleeves, grain loaders and unloaders
as well as modular awning-covered granaries with capacities ranging from 300 to 1,000 tons (for wheat).
