As a result of Russian shelling, 70 thousand hectares of fields with crops burned in July alone. Because of these fires, Ukraine lost 317,000 tons of grain. This is a catastrophic loss.
Donetsk, Nikolayev and Kherson regions suffered most of all, ProAgro Group reports with reference to Forbes Ukraine.
In previous years there were also fires in the fields in the summer. But they occurred throughout Ukraine and were mostly due to arson by farmers themselves. This year all the fires are concentrated exclusively along the front line and are hardly connected with stubble burning”, writes the edition.
In July, there were also pastures and forests burning: 16.7 thousand ha of meadows and pastures (Donetsk region suffered most of all – 9258 ha) and 1.1 thousand ha of forests (Luhansk region – 287 ha).
