Russia demanded lifting sanctions against rossigolspbank to extend grain deal

Four sources, who refused to be identified due to the sensitivity of the topic, said that during the negotiations on the extension of the agreement on food supplies from Ukraine, Russia appealed to Western countries to lift sanctions against the state-owned Rosselkhozbank and allow it to restore its relations with correspondent banks.

It is reported by “ProAgro Group” with reference to Reuters.

It is noted that the lifting of sanctions will allow the bank, which has not yet played a major role in international grain trade, to process payments for Russian grain and other food products, two sources added. Before the latest sanctions, such payments were handled by international banks and subsidiaries of other Russian banks in Switzerland.

The sources did not say what response Russia received. Earlier, Moscow said its agreement to extend the Black Sea grain deal was contingent on maintaining its own grain and fertilizer exports.
