Pig livestock market shows post-holiday price decrease

In the second half of January, the post-holiday weakening of prices in the market of live pigs increased: the market average rate lost 5.8% versus the previous week and stopped at 45.7 UAH/kg.

This is reported by ProAgro Group with reference to the information of the analytical department of the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine.

During the third week the seasonal trend of weakening of pork prices showed itself not only in the west of Ukraine, but also in other regions. Thus, the range of purchase prices in the Center and in the East dropped to UAH 45-47 / kg, in the Western regions – to 44-45 UAH/kg.

At the same time, processors note the regional divergence not only in prices, but also in the volumes of livestock. For example, some buyers from the East and Center noted that they could not reserve the desired amount of live stock.

Some pork producers, in turn, confirm that they have somewhat smaller amounts of commercial batches to sell, including for the next week.

The association noted that expectations for further price dynamics among representatives of meat processing are divided. For example, some forecast a decrease in purchase prices by 1-2 hryvnias per kg next week, arguing that it is due to the seasonal weakening of trade and pressure from imported raw materials.

Others are oriented to the stabilization of prices at the end of the month, as the final sale is planned, and a further weakening of prices will not improve it, or improve the financial results of the value added chain.
