Due to the war, commercial fish catch in Ukraine fell by more than 70%

Due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, the industrial catch in the country’s water bodies has fallen by more than 70% compared to last year, reports “ProAgro Group” with reference to the information of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

Also, one of the factors of such a sharp drop is the ban by regional military administrations, border guards, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on commercial fishing in certain areas of water bodies. In particular, the navigation of fishing vessels and, accordingly, the catch of aquatic bioresources is prohibited on a large territory of Ukraine.

Thus, industrial fishing of aquatic bioresources is completely prohibited in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. In addition, a partial ban is in force in Kyiv, Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

The State Fisheries Agency together with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy are actively working on the issues of possible increase in the volume of commercial fishing.

“The full functioning of the economy of our country and the solution of food security issues depends on the timely filling of the domestic market with domestic products, in particular fish. It is necessary to make the optimal decision taking into account the combination of security and economic aspects”, – said Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Holovnya.
