Ukraine terminated the last agreement with Russia on fishing in the Sea of Azov

The State Fisheries Agency has officially terminated the Agreement between the State Committee of Ukraine for Fisheries and Fish Industry and the Russian Committee for Fisheries in the Sea of Azov. The agency reported this on its Facebook page, ProAgro Group reports.

“In accordance with the conciliation procedure established by law, the initiative of the State Fisheries Agency to terminate the Agreement, in accordance with the procedure established by law, was supported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice. Now the Foreign Ministry must notify the counterparty, that is Russia, about the termination of the Agreement” – the agency said.

This agreement was in force since 1993 and was a tool for implementing the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea in terms of ensuring the rational use of water bioresources of the Azov Sea basin. Having carried out a military invasion of the territory of Ukraine and actually blocked Ukrainian fishing activities in the Azov Sea basin, Russia made it impossible for the parties to fulfill their obligations under the agreement.
