The New Year table will cost 8% higher for Ukrainians

In average the cost of the New Year’s table in 2022 for a Ukrainian family of 4 persons will go up by 8.1% compared to the cost of the New Year’s table in 2021 and will amount to 1844.74 UAH, as informs ProAgro Group with reference to Institute of Agrarian Economics.

According to the director of the institution, academician Yuriy Lupenko, the assessment was based on the New Year’s menu of dishes that are traditional for the average family table: salads, meat and fish products, vegetables, fruits, bakery and confectionery, drinks, and so on.

According to calculations of scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, the Olivier salad (3 kg of products of the traditional recipe) will cost 198.54 UAH. This is 24.6% more than during the celebration of the New Year 2021. The most expensive ingredients of the dish are sausage – 100 UAH for 0.5 kg (price increased up to 43% depending on manufacturer), 0.5 kg of green peas – 35 UAH (8% increase), 6 eggs – 3.5 UAH (10% increase). (8% increase), 6 eggs – 19.8 UAH (37%), 200 grams of pickles – 17,22 UAH (4%) and 180 g of mayonnaise – 13,5 UAH (by 8% depending on the brand). Another 13.02 UAH will cost 2 carrots (380 g), 5 potatoes (840 g) and 2 onions (230 g). If at the end of 2021 the price of carrots and potatoes decreased by 5.6% and 10%, respectively, compared to the previous year, the price of onions increased by 39%.

The cost of meat products increased by 10-26%, said Yuriy Lupenko. Half a kilogram of sliced smoked sausage “Salami” will cost 98.5 UAH (+10.1% against prices in 2020), smoked underbelly – 110 UAH (+10%), pork loaf – 115 UAH (+4,5%). Poultry meat (carcasses) as of the end of 2021 remains the cheapest among types of meat, while chicken fillet is almost equal to the price of pork. For 1 kg of fresh chicken fillet you will have to pay an average of 120 UAH. In general, the cost of 2.5 kg of meat products on the New Year’s table will amount to 443.5 UAH.

Herring (0.5 kilo fillet) which is traditional for the Ukrainian table will cost 100 UAH, cheese (300 gr) – 75 UAH and a pack of butter (200 gr) – 50 UAH. Dairy products this year have risen by 14-30%.

In general, the cost of the budget version of the Christmas table in Kyiv will amount to 2123.59 UAH, which is by 10.8% more than the cost of the New Year’s table in 2021. A table with delicacies will cost residents of the capital at 2673.59 UAH, summed up Yuriy Lupenko.

Calculation of the cost of the New Year’s table in 2022 made by Institute of Agrarian Economics based on data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, monitoring of retail prices in urban markets and supermarkets with an average in the regions as of December 1, 2021.
