The National Academy of Agrarian Sciences has considered the creation of the Institute of climate-oriented agriculture in Ukraine, which will be subordinate to the NAAS.
The Institute will be located in Kherson, reports “ProAgro Group” with reference to information from the Academy.
The establishment will take place by the order of the Cabinet of Ministers after the reorganization and merging of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture, the Institute of Rice and the Southern State Agricultural Experimental Station of the Institute of Water Problems and Land Reclamation.
Among the areas of activity of the Institute of climate-oriented agriculture NAAS will be, in particular, conduction of breeding research for creation of crop varieties and hybrids adapted to climate change, maintenance of primary and elite seed production for obtaining high-quality seed material, implementation of scientific developments in the direction of climate-oriented agriculture in different soil and climate zones of Ukraine.
The Institute will also conduct research on measuring emissions and sequestration of greenhouse gases in crop production for different cropping systems on irrigated and non-irrigated lands with the introduction of low-carbon crop technologies.
