Agrarians are increasingly concerned about the state of freight on Ukrzaliznytsia

Because of the chronic problems of Ukrzaliznytsia, the situation with the railroad transportation has deteriorated greatly: the turnaround of railroad cars has increased and cargoes stand idle for a long time.

This was stated by the deputy chairman of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council Mykhailo Sokolov, reports ProAgro Group with reference to OBOZREVATEL.

“We have a locomotive fleet, worn out by 96%. We have unresolved problems of the infrastructure itself – about 35% of the tracks as of this summer required major repairs or reconstruction. We have bottlenecks at the ports because track capacity is insufficient there. Ports can load more than they can take in! And nobody deals with that,” said Sokolov.

He noted that because of the constant postponement of the reform of Ukrzaliznytsia, every year transportation problems are growing, and now the situation is critical. At the same time that the tariffs for freight transportation are constantly increasing.

“If everything collapses and freight turnover grows? There will be what happens when railcar turnaround times increase. And, let’s call things by their proper names: when there are some cars just standing there abandoned without locomotives, then products – grain, oil, fuel and the like – are being stolen,” Sokolov explained.
