The American railway holding Railroad Development Corp (RDC), in cooperation with the German operator RailAdventure, is working on the possibility of delivering 1000 freight cars from North America to Europe to help export grain from Ukraine.
According to ProAgro Group, citing the CTS, RDC has identified a fleet of covered hopper wagons previously used to transport sand that can be modified for use in Europe. This requires updating the braking equipment and wheels to meet European requirements, writes Railway gazette.
Now both companies are working on the issue of compliance with European certification rules. To this end, the first three cars can be sent to the EU for testing.
If the certification is successful, the cars will be used to form trains of 50 cars each. They will operate on five routes determined by grain companies.
As you know, one of the bottlenecks of Ukrainian grain export logistics by rail is the shortage of grain wagons in the EU countries that could be used for such transportation.
