Railway connection between Ukraine and Moldova was resumed at the section Berezino – Bessarabeasca. On the eve of the first time in almost 25 years a freight train departed from Odesa region.
This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov on his page on Facebook, “ProAgro Group” reports.
In two months, Ukrainian railroad workers restored more than 22 km of infrastructure on the territory of Ukraine and another 1.2 km of track under the contract on the territory of Moldova.
“Restoration of this route became vital against the background of constant attacks of the bridge over the Dniester estuary by Russian occupants. Now there is an alternative: the main railway route to connect Odesa and the Danube ports “Reni” and “Izmail” is reliably connected to the railroad. We expect that we will be able to achieve an average of 10 million tons of freight traffic per year on this route,” – said the Minister.
In the course of works, the railroad workers restored the geometric size of the railway bed, laid rails and reinforced concrete sleepers and repaired 14 railway bridges.
