Ukrainian ports will be primarily used to export grain from farmers

Grain, which will be exported through the ports, by 99% will be from the farmers and it will be dealt by private entities. The role of the state in this process concerning the possibility of redemption and resale of grain is being defined now. Everything depends on which way the market will go: if super profits are more important for traders than other tasks, the rules will be revised.

This was stated by Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solsky during the briefing, “ProAgro Group” reports with reference to AgroPortal.

“After an agreement was signed with Turkey and the UN to unblock Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea for the export of food, Ukraine has $10 billion worth of grain left. This year we expect another $20 billion worth of crops to be exported. The money that Ukraine will receive from the sale of grain is necessary for much of the country to function in the future. First of all the agricultural sector. It is not only farmers, but virtually the entire village, because peasants receive rent, and workers who are involved in agriculture receive wages. It’s also the money a farmer needs to sow next year,” Solsky said.

The minister added that the agreement should solve a number of problems. First of all, the amount of grain exported should increase and logistics should become cheaper.

“In world markets, the farmer gives about 15% of the price of the infrastructure – the railroad, the port. Ukraine needs to get back to this. If this does not happen, then there will come an even bigger problem in Ukraine and the world”, – said Mykola Solsky.
