“Ukrzaliznytsia” has restricted transportation to the EU, but plans to open new border crossings

Ukrzaliznytsia has published on its website a number of new conventions on freight transportation through western border crossings. This is reported by “ProAgro Group” with reference to Rail.insider.

In particular, from August 26 is prohibited acceptance for transportation of cars for the carrier DB Cargo Polska destination in Germany and Poland through the station Jagodyn.

On 28 August the convention for the Romanian carrier Unicom Tranzit to transport the goods along the 1520 mm track via Vadul-Siret station was also introduced.

The aforementioned conventions are valid “until cancelled” for all cargoes and consignees. In addition, it is planned to limit transportation for several destination stations and certain cargo nomenclature to the Czech Republic and Poland.

At the same time, according to Valery Tkachev, deputy director of the company’s commercial work department, Ukrzaliznytsia JSC plans to open rail service at three more border crossings to expand throughput capacity.

“On the expansion of the western border crossings, we are also working in this direction. We have launched the Berezine-Basarabianka, now we are considering Grebenne-Rava-Ruska and Strazawa-Kroszenko (Poland), and also Delovo-Vala-Visheului (Romania). These four border crossings, which are aimed specifically at expanding the capacity,” said Valery Tkachov.
