Buckwheat harvest exceeded expectations

Agrarians have already threshed 107 thousand tons of buckwheat under the total forecast of 100 thousand tons. This was stated by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Roman Leshchenko, as “ProAgro Group” reports.

“This year is rich in records of harvesting crops. We have received the largest yield of buckwheat over the past few years. Two months ago our forecasts were at the level of 100 thousand tons. And now, being on the finish line, but not yet over it, the agrarians have threshed 107 thousand tons of buckwheat. But these figures correspond to the level of 94%, since only 15 oblasts have finished harvesting. So our updated forecasts are more than 110 thousand tons. The highest yield is recorded in Vinnytsia region – 15.9 c/ha”, – said Roman Leshchenko.

The Ministry notes that due to the program of state support of buckwheat production, farmers receive up to 5 thousand hryvnias of subsidies per hectare of cultivated land under the crop. This program was initiated by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy this year, and has already shown effective and efficient results of import substitution.

Roman Leshchenko also recalled that in 2021 50 million hryvnias were allocated to support buckwheat producers. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy intends to continue to support the domestic farmers and to continue mentioned program next year.

“Those who speculate on the subject of food security and intimidate Ukrainians, I urge to look at specific figures: the Ukrainians are fully provided with grain and buckwheat” – summed up Roman Leshchenko.
