Agricultural trade between Ukraine and the EU reached $12.6 billion.

In 2021, mutual trade in agricultural products between Ukraine and the European Union (including Great Britain) amounted to $12.6 billion, which is the highest figure for the entire period of the Association Agreement.

At the same time the surplus for Ukraine amounted to $4.2 billion, as told Deputy Director of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences Mykola Pugachov, reports “ProAgro Group” with reference to the scientific institution.

According to him, the main European partners for Ukraine are the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, as well as the UK and Belgium, which in recent years are firmly entrenched in this list. These countries form 82% of total domestic trade turnover of agro-food with European Union.

Last year Ukraine imported about $4.2 bn worth of agricultural products from the EU member states, which is 19% more than it did the year before. The import of agricultural products to Ukraine from the EU, said Mykola Pugachev, does not yet have the same structure as the export. However, several groups of goods stand out.

For example, in 2021 Ukraine spent the most – $484 million – on the purchase of beverages, mainly alcoholic beverages, in the EU. Various foodstuffs, extracts and concentrates were purchased for $402 million.
