Bread prices will rise by almost a third in the near future due to the rise in gas prices. This was stated by the president of the Ukrainian Association of Bakers, Yuriy Duchenko, reports ProAgro Group.
According to him, the cost of baking bread is rising every day, along with the cost of energy. Because of the rapid rise in gas prices the cost of baking is getting higher. Just a year ago, the gas to bake one loaf of bread cost 50 cents. And now in order to bake one loaf of bread it is necessary to spend 5 UAH.
“The rapid rise in gas prices has actually brought the processing and food industries in the country to the brink of survival. If we talk about bread, which has always been available, then today bakers are in real danger of stopping production. All components of the cost price have grown, today we are talking about a 30% increase in the price of bread of mass consumption, “- said Duchenko.
However, to prevent a sharp rise in price, the government intends to establish a preferential price of natural gas for bakers for the maximum period until March 31, 2022. We are talking about gas produced in Ukraine. According to the draft decree, the marginal markup on gas for the bakery industry should not exceed 1 percent.
