Pork imports to Ukraine decreased by 23% in November

According to the State Customs Service, Ukraine imported 4.7 thousand tons of fresh, chilled and frozen pork in November. As stated by the Association “Pig Breeders of Ukraine,” it is by 23% or 1.4 thousand tons less than the previous month, reports ProAgro Group.

The level of import activity was weakened by both price dynamics on the domestic pork market and a relative “lull” in the EU countries, said the association.

“In the middle of November there was a price minimum for the second half of the year 2021, connected with a seasonal fall of prices on the live stock market. Although prices began to recover in the second half of the month, they have not fully caught up with the positions lost in October. Therefore, the average price in November was 6.7% lower than in October.”

“At the same time, EU pork prices have fluctuated slightly since late October in response to a more balanced market situation, so the change in the monthly average did not exceed a couple of percent. The inconsistency of price dynamics slightly reduced the economic attractiveness of pork imports from abroad,” commented the analytical department of ASU.

However, in spite of the reduction of import flow at the end of autumn, the volume of external supplies of pork meat is considerably larger than that recorded before August of this year.
